Satisfied with my purchase...Here's what you need to know
I purchased the Seiko SRP777, or more widely known as in the watch community, the Seiko “Turtle”. The name came from the shell-shape case, which also makes the watch incredibly comfortable. At almost $400.00, this watch is a step up from an introduction to watches, but still short from low luxury. If you want a watch that will take a beating and need virtually no service, the Seiko Turtle is the right choice. In 1977, the original Turtle, the 6309, was released. Unfortunately for this 2016 reinterpretation, it does not share its original dimensions. Coming in at 44mm wide, and 48mm in length, the SRP777 demands an average, or even an above average wrist size. Fortunately, the big watch craze of the 2000’s is coming to a close, therefore this watch will not be the best fit for all wrists. My advice if your wrists are 6” or smaller would be to put the watch on a NATO strap or a rubber strap, as I have found that a metal bracelet makes the watch wear much larger on the wrist.Seiko’s SPR line features hacking and handwinding with the help of the 4r36 movement, an improvement from the 7s36. The threads on the crown are smooth and defined, and I have had no issues with them. With a 200 meter water resistance rating, you will probably stop ticking before the watch does if you venture that deep. One of my gripes with the design is the addition of the day-date window. This is a dive watch, and needing to know the date is irrelevant to those who use this tool to its potential. For everyday use, however, it can be very helpful.A common problem from Seiko buyers is the rotating bezel. More specifically, when the bezel does not exactly match up with the minute track. I understand this complaint, as it appears in even more expensive models than the Turtle. Even though it can be annoying, I quickly stopped noticing it, and it does not affect the accuracy of the dive function.I do recommend this watch if you are looking for a timepiece with both history and reliance, and need a watch for any situation. The iconic design will remain relevant indefinitely, just as it will remain in your collection indefinitely.
