Invicta Grand Diver 3049 Review – The Big Diver’s Watch From Invicta

Invicta Grand Diver 3049 Review

In this post, I’m going to write about Invicta Grand Diver review, specifically the two-tone version with reference number 3049.

The Grand Diver is part of the family of Invicta’s diver’s watch. I’m pretty sure most of you already know about the Submariner-like 8928/8926 diver’s watches right?

Invicta Grand Diver 3049

Those are inside the Pro Diver lineup and in fact, I’ve featured both of them in my list of the best automatic watches under $200 (which you can read HERE).

The watches just have so much value for money, especially if you love that Rolex Submariner look but won’t or can’t afford to pay thousands of dollars on a watch.

So what’s the difference between the Grand Diver and the Pro Diver?

For a start, the Grand Diver is bigger at 47 mm diameter vs the Pro Diver’s 40 mm. There are also other differences which I’ll elaborate more later on.

Now, let’s check out the Invicta Grand Diver 3049 review shall we.

Beautiful Blue Dial With Gold Accent

The dial of the Invicta Grand Diver 3049 is blue in color, with gold accents that’s just very nice to look at.

The dial is unmistakably diver’s watch style with index markers and hands filled with lume.

At the top, we can see the signatures “Invicta” and “Grand Diver” below Invicta’s logo in gold.

The bottom part of the dial has the water resistant marking (300 m) and the diver suit logo which looks nice and unique, to be honest.

The right side of the dial has the date display with cyclops, which everyone knows was taken from Submariner design.

Uniquely Invicta, Less Of Submariner

What’s surprising about the dial of the Invicta Grand Diver 3049 is how Invicta added their own styling to the watch.

If you look at their Pro Diver watches, such as the popular 8928 and 8926, they really look a lot like Rolex Submariner – even to the details such as mercedes hands, dial placement, font etc.

The Grand Diver watch, on the other hand, is designed to be a different watch or should I say Invicta’s own design.

Invicta Grand Diver 3049 front

They only retained some of the elements of the Submariner such as the overall look, cyclops and bezel design.

But details such as the hands and dial signatures are undoubtedly Invicta’s.

With this small but important changes, the Grand Diver is not just a Submariner copy-cat anymore but a watch on its own – which is very important for some watch enthusiasts =)

A Huge 47 mm Case

One of the “biggest” trait (pun intended) of the Invicta Grand Diver 3049 is how big the watch is – it’s close to 47 mm diameter! And with a thickness of 17 mm (it has a very domed caseback btw), this is one very big watch.

For some, bigger watch is better since the added heft makes it feel to be of higher quality and more sturdy.

Actually that’s not really true as there are many diver’s watches out there that’s smaller than 40 mm (especially the older generations of watches) and yet can withstand lots of punishment.

Some also loves the feel of a big and heavy watch as it feels cool and what’s better than the feel of having a huge mass of steel on your wrist?

Invicta Grand Diver 3049 on hand

The Invicta Grand Diver 3049 is a huge watch that’s only suited for bigger wrists

It’s indeed a satisfying feeling – only if your wrist is big (and strong) enough to wield this huge 47 mm watch.

To accompany this huge watch, the stainless steel bracelet has 22 mm width with the higher quality solid end links instead of the hollow links in the Pro Diver watches.

The claps is double locked with plate steel connectors giving that premium feeling as compared to thin sheet connectors.

Invicta also brilliantly designed the lugs to be heavily curving down so that its bracelet or strap will conform nicely to the wearer’s wrist. To some extent, this makes the watch easier to be worn by smaller wrists.

But still, I’d recommend for you to measure your wrist first before attempting to buy the Grand Diver 3049. It won’t look nice if you’re wearing a watch a few sizes too big for you LOL!

Gold Plated Case And Bracelet

The Invicta Grand Diver 3049 has a gold plated case and bezel to achieve that coveted two-tone style with its blue dial.

Without a doubt, this is a watch to get if you want it to be noticeable by people.

It’s such a head turner! The gold plated is strategically placed at the middle links of the bracelet, edge of the bezel and the screw down crown.

Invicta Grand Diver 3049 side 22

Just like its dial, Invicta tried very hard to make sure the case is far from being a Submariner knock off.

There are diving suit logo engraved at the end links of the bracelets as well as the top of the crown.

“Invicta” and “Grand Diver” signatures are featured at the sides of the case, left and right sides respectively.

For some, this added elements might seem tacky but I quite like it because it’s something that no one has ever done before.

It might deter those that want to buy it and pose the watch as a Submariner but that’s the whole purpose of it – Invicta don’t want this watch to be another Submariner look alike.

They want the watch to be their own, which is a good effort by the company.

Mineral Crystal And Scallop Bezel

On top of the watch is a mineral crystal which is nothing fancy to write about. It gets the job done, which is to avoid any damage to the internal of the watch as well as keep water away from the insides.

But I need to warn you that mineral crystal is far from being a scratch resistant material.

It can and will easily get scratches, though we can always try to avoid the deep ones from happening.

For that we will need to take care of the watch as good as we can e.g don’t throw your watch into a pocket full of coins or keys, don’t slam it into a wall or pavement, and others.

While deep scratches can be avoided, I found it hard to keep the crystal free from hairline scratches.

There will always be one of those no matter how careful you are LOL!

(Read my introduction to watch crystals HERE to find out more about them)

Around the crystal is also the unidirectional rotating diver bezel that has a blue fill with gold markings and edge. Unidirectional means the bezel can only rotate counter-clockwise.

This is one of the pre-requisite of any diver’s watch as the bezel will be used to time diving duration.

It’s quite lengthy to describe so I’ll just post a link to my previous post below for those that want to learn more about how to use diver’s bezel.

(Click HERE for my guide on how to use diver’s bezel)

What I want to focus here is how the edge of the bezel has that “scallop” pattern usually associated with Omega Seamaster watches. Normal diver’s watches have the Submariner-like coin edge bezels.

I like how these scallop edges look as it’s more subtle and sublime but then it’s not the best in terms of using the bezel.

You see, the bezel for watches are not easy to be rotated. It has to be sturdy not to be rotated by accident.

Thus, we need a good grip on it to be able to rotate it easily, which the scallop bezel is lacking. The coin edge is easier to operate as we can grip it better even with wet hands.

The scallop edge, on the other hand, can be a challenge to rotate if your hand is wet, and for a diver’s watch that’s not really a good fit don’t you think?

By the way, Invicta also produces their watch with coin edge with the extension OB (for Old Bezel) on the watch’s serial number.

So if you are thinking of using the bezel for diving, it’s definitely a better choice.

Seiko NH35A Automatic Movement

One of the similarities of the Invicta Grand Diver 3049 and the Pro Diver watches is the use of Seiko’s Cal. NH35A automatic self-winding movement.

This is a lower grade movement by the Japanese watchmaker with 21 jewels and beats 6 times per second (means the second hand will tick 6 times in a second for the fluid sweeping action).

But what’s nice about this movement is it can be hacked (the second hand will stop when setting the time) and can be manual wind – both features prevalent in modern automatic movements.

While I don’t think the hacking is that much of importance, the manual winding feature is a big deal to me.

Invicta Grand Diver 3049 caseback

There’s an exhibition caseback at the backside of the Invicta Grand Diver 3049 so that its owners can peek into the automatic movement inside it

What it’ll do is instead of relying completely on wearing the watch to recharge its 36 hours power reserve, we can just rotate its crown to charge it.

As someone that is lucky to be in a possession of many automatic watches, you can’t believe how convenient this is.

With this feature, I can keep my watches running even though I’m not using them for 2 or 3 days.

That way, I can just take it off the shelves when it’s their turn to be worn without needing to have to start it from dead and reset the time, date and day again. Manual winidng is truly a convenient thing to have.

(Click HERE to download the user manual of the NH35A automatic movement for info on time setting instructions, etc.)

Many Variations Of The Invicta Grand Diver

So you don’t like the gold and blue version? Well, you’re in for a luck as Invicta also produces quite a number of variations for this watch.

As far as I know, there are 4 other versions that might appeal to you (do let me know if there are others that I missed)

Above: Invicta Grand Diver 3044 – The traditional black and silver/white diver’s watch

Above: Invicta Grand Diver 3045 – Fancy a blue diver’s watch?

Above: Invicta Grand Diver 3046 – The more unique white dial with blue bezel

Above: Invicta Grand Diver 3047 – Black dial with green bezel

Invicta Pro Diver vs. Grand Diver

One thing that most people always confuse at is the difference between Invicta Grand Diver and Pro Diver watches.

Above is the Invicta Grand Diver 3049

And above picture is the Invicta Pro Diver 8928. Can you spot the differences?

In summary, below is the list of what’s the difference between these two watches:

  1. The Grand Diver is bigger at 47 mm vs. 40 mm diameter
  2. Grand Diver retails for a higher price
  3. With its larger size, the Grand Diver is more suited towards casual use. The Pro Diver is more sublime and can be used in a professional setting
  4. The Grand Diver has higher water resistance at 300 m vs. the 200 m that the Pro Diver has
  5. Solid end links on the Grand Diver bracelet is better than the hollow links of the Pro Diver. Hollow links has that annoyingly faint metal touching sound….
  6. While the Pro Diver is almost an exact copy of Rolex Submariner, the Grand Diver has its own design details (diving suit logo, signature design, hands, etc) which makes it a watch on its own.

Above video shows the size comparison between the pro diver and the grand diver watch series

Who Is This Invicta Grand Diver 3049 For?

Without a doubt, the Grand Diver 3049 is an upgraded version of the Pro Diver. 300 m water resistance, solid end links with Invicta’s own styling on the watch – all of these are something that the Pro Diver lacks.

It has the timeless styling of Rolex Submariner, while also being a watch on its own.

So if you’re looking for something extra from the Pro Diver but don’t want to spend top dollars, then this is the watch for you.

Furthermore, the oversized 47 mm diameter with the huge mass would also appeal to those looking for a true manly diver’s watch.

If you think you have what it takes to pull this huge watch off nicely, then please do so =)

Who Should Not Get It?

Likewise, anyone with a smaller or more normal wrist size should refrain from buying it.

It does look very handsome but there’s nothing more off-putting than a too big of a watch on a small wrist. Tread carefully guys…

Final Thoughts

The Invicta Grand Diver 3049 is a good value for money diver’s watch. It’s widely considered as an upgrade over the Pro Diver watches due to increased water resistance rating and build quality.

It’s two-tone style and over-sized case caused it to have such a huge wrist presence that grabs everyone’s attention.

Not only that, it also was instilled with Invicta’s own styling and is no longer the Rolex Submariner copy-cat the Pro Diver is often associated with.

If you’re looking for a good diver’s watch that gives you the best bang for your buck, the Grand Diver 3049 is really worth considering.

I hope you enjoy this Invicta Grand Diver 3049 review. Do let me know any questions or comments that you have on the watch.

I’d love to hear what you think about it =)

Cheers!

Invicta 8926 – Is It A Good Diver’s Watch?

Invicta 8926 Watch Reviews

An Affordable Alternative To Rolex Submariner – An Invicta 8926 Review

Invicta 8926 is the best and most popular among the brand’s pro diver watches and it’s easy to know why.

Just like it’s sibling the Invicta 8928 (I’ve reviewed the watch HERE), this is a watch that borrows (or should I say steal? Opps…) its look from the famed Rolex Submariner.

And in this post I’m going to write about the Invicta 8926 review in full detail.

Without a doubt, the Invicta 8926 Pro Diver is a watch that looks more expensive than it is. It looks classy, make you seem like a distinguished gentleman, and most people will always mistaken it for a Rolex.

It catches everyone’s eye and looks to have cost more than it does.

And at its stunningly low price for an automatic watch the 8926 Pro Diver is incredible considering its style, features and not to mention it’s a full automatic watch too!

Invicta 8926 vs 8926OB: Scallop Vs Coin Edge

Before we go into the full Invicta 8926 review, let’s look into the common confusion among people.

Invicta usually produces their Pro Diver watches in two types: Scallop edge bezel and Coin edge bezel.

Coin edge bezel is the gear-like edges at the sides of the rotating bezel. It’s the same as found on a Submariner.

For this version, the model number of Invicta watches will have the “OB” at the end, meaning Old Bezel.

Frankly, I don’t know why they call it like that though. If any of you guys know about it, put it in the comments section below as I’m also interested to know about it.

Invicta 8926 (Scallop Edge Bezel)Invicta 8926 (Scallop Edge Bezel)Invicta 8926OB (Coin Edge Bezel)Invicta 8926OB (Coin Edge Bezel)

The Invicta 8926 and 8926OB side by side comparison. While the scallop edge bezel is more unique, the coin edge is much easier to rotate the bezel. Other than that, the watch is identical in all aspects

Now the model number without the “OB” at the end (e.g 8926) is the watch with scallop bezel edge which is modeled like an Omega Seamaster.

Other than the bezel edges, everything else about these two are the same.

So which one is better?

Price wise, there is not much difference between them.  On the look part, I think the scallop edge is more unique than the coin edge.

But the problem with this watch is its bezel is quite hard to be rotated so much so having a scallop edge will make it a tedious process.

So for functionality, it’s much better to get the coin edge instead.

So the issue of 8926 vs 8926OB has been closed, let’s get into the in-depth review of the Invicta 8926/8926OB. For simplicity, I’ll just use the 8926 when referring to both of the watches.

Invicta 8926 = A Cheap Rolex Submariner

Most watch fans know that Invicta Pro Diver series “borrow” inspiration from the Rolex Submariner design (specifically the 116610LN model with black dial and date window).

While some call it a homage to the Submariner, I tend to not be so forgiving on it.

Reason being it’s plain to see that Invicta copied the Submariner’s design in totality. The hands, the markers, the date window, the bezel font, even the magnifying cyclops are just exact copy.

The aspects that they changed are just their signature and logo on it. Plus an Invicta engraving at the side of the case, and an exhibition caseback.

In terms of material, finishing, movement and bracelet, the Submariner is definitely way ahead of this Invicta, no less because it is at least 100 times more expensive lol!

Rolex Submariner Ceramic Bezel 116610LN

Rolex Submariner 116610LN – can you spot the difference between this watch and the Invicta? They are totally the same design except for the logo and signatures on the dial. But will you pay an extra $10,000++ for this?

The Invicta 8926 looks great, no doubt about that, but it’s plainly clear that the brand wants to sell this watch riding on the famous look of the Submariner.

I don’t think there’s any legal issue about this but morally, I don’t think it’s the right thing to do as it’s a blatant copy akin to stealing.

What I believe is this is a watch that’s a bit lacking in character as it does not have a unique design.

But that’s my opinion. Let me know your opinion on this guys. I love to hear what you guys think about this issue =)

As Handsome As The Submariner

The 8926OB is a watch that was made for diving activities but also for regular use. Therefore, it is designed to be sleek and stylish while still being a functioning dive watch.

It has a significant weight and is moderately sized at 40 mm so that it can suit many almost all men’s wrists.

The look of the watch is also quite good-looking which makes it easier to wear it casually or to the office.

You can even wear it to some fancy dinner or meeting as well because it looks quite elegant and suits any clothes you wear. It’s likeliness to the Submariner will definitely attract people’s attention =)

Invicta 8926OB Reviews hands on

The black dial is not too big but is distinguishable. The black color of the dial and the bezel frame make a nice contrast together and makes the watch look pleasing to the eye.

The lume on dial does not function as it should and only glows for a few minutes. Such disappointing factors are to be expected from a watch with this price.

A Normal Sized 40 mm Stainless Steel Watch

The Invicta 8926 has a 40 mm diameter case which is a very nice size for a men’s wrist. It’s not too big and will surely able to fit with most guy’s wrists.

The 13mm thickness of the case does not allow for it to fit under any cuffs though.

It’s bracelet, sadly, is not as good as the case is. The 20mm width bracelet leaves something to be desired since it rattles like a cheap watch.

To adjust the links you would have to take it to a watch shop or you can easily do it yourself.

Just search on youtube on how to fix these bracelets and you’ll find lots of great videos on how to do it.

I’d suggest to invest in a cheap bracelet fixing tools as it will make it a whole lot easier to do.

Invicta 8926OB Reviews

People have complained about the stiffness of the bezel and how it’s hard to turn and the coin edge bezel (9826OB) is definitely the better option than the scallop edge.

The mineral glass on the watch is not the best in terms of scratch resistance and can’t be polished off like an acrylic crystal. But still, you get what you paid for lol.

Seiko NH35A Automatic Movement

This Invicta 8926 uses a Seiko NH35A automatic self winding movement caliber, which is a low grade movement from the Japanese maker.

I believe this is one of the good thing with this Invicta as it gives people access to automatic watches at low prices.

Sure, there are many cheap Seiko 5s out there that use the same movement but Invicta watches give an option to those that want an affordable automatic watch without the Seiko name tag on it.

The movement is not exactly the most accurate, robust or delicate.

It’s far from that. In fact, there are lots of complains from Amazon buyers that their watches keep on dying many times while in use though this does not happen to all buyers.

Invicta 8926 Exhibition caseback

The Seiko NH35A movement can be seen from the exhibition caseback of the Invicta 8926. There’s hardly any finishing on it with the exception of the engravings.

One thing to be noted about is some people have also received damaged pieces in their packages.

You should keep in mind to be careful when buying this watch and make sure you get a working one. If you don’t, quickly file a complain and return the watch back.

Can We Trust That 200 m Water Resistance?

The Swedish brand has mentioned how all their Pro Diver watches have a high water resistance which is the prerequisite for any dive watch.

With the 200 m water resistance rating, it will function properly underwater as long as you do not go farther than 660 feet deep – at least that’s what it should be.

Now, there are people who have dive with the 8926 and live to tell the tale, but there are also many negative responses to its water resistance.

People have complained about how it does not work most of the time when exposed to water. Some even said their watches fogged up even though they never expose it to water.

With all of this complain, would any diver trust their life with this “diver’s watch”? I understand that these cases are lemon units, but such huge number of complains are uncommon.

Seiko 5, the Japanese brand’s cheap automatic watch lines are also not free of defect. They are mass produced and definitely has lemons here and there.

But Seiko never publicize their Seiko 5 as a “Professional Diver’s watch” and that’s the main difference between them and this Invicta.

And lastly, what’s the point of having a Pro Diver watch but it has a high possibility to stop working once expose to water?

Which is why I recommend you guys that want to get an Invicta to get it from a reputable seller with a good refund policy (like Amazon) – just in case something like this happen.

Invicta 8926 hands on

Despite its flaws, there is no question that the Invicta 8926 is a good looking watch

Who Is This Watch For?

For anyone that loves the look of Rolex Submariner (especially the 116610LN model), then this is the watch for you.

It captures the whole design of this classic watch completely. It also has an automatic movement inside it giving that sweeping seconds hand action which is definitely more desirable than those normal quartz watches.

At its stunning price, it’s definitely a very good value for money. If you guys like the classic and cool diver’s watch look of this Invicta 8926, Amazon has the best price.

Currently the watch sells a great affordable price on Amazon compared to its ridiculous MSRP of $315. Click the link below to check it out on Amazon.

Who Should Not Get It?

As good looking as it is, we have to be wary that it’s a sub $100 automatic watch. It’s quality and craftsmanship is not the best there is.

In my opinion, Seiko makes the best value for money diver’s automatic watches with their mid-range watches (such as SKX007, SRP777, Monster etc) and those watches hover around $200 to $300.

And if that’s the price to be paid for great affordable automatic diver’s watch, logically speaking this Invicta 8926 is definitely not a good diver’s watch.

It’s not as good in water resistance, under performing lume and questionable movement quality. For anyone looking for a serious diver’s watch, the Seikos listed above is a good start =)

Pros and Cons

The pros and cons of the Invicta 8926 watch are as below:

Pros:
1. The design is very similar to the Rolex Submariner, and that means it looks elegant and appealing.
2. It’s an affordable automatic watch
3. Has a great style and versatile for any events

Cons:
1. It has gotten complaints about its bezel frame that is hard to rotate and that has brought on some negative reviews.
2. It is an imitation of the Rolex Submariner (at least 90% of the watch look is directly copied lol!)
3. The luminous dial does not work all the time and only lights up for a few minutes under water after which it turns dark.
4. Many buyers have complained about getting defective or damaged products in their packages, so it is not entirely reliable.

Any Higher Quality Diver’s Watch With Affordable Price?

If you feel spooked by Invicta’s poor QC record but still want an affordable automatic diver’s watch, then Orients and Seikos are there to fulfill this need.

These Japanese brand diver’s watches are typically in the $200 to $300.

Even though it’s a steep price increase than any Invicta Pro Diver (about more than twice), the quality of the watch and its movement is totally higher.

And the amount of satisfied customers surely speaks volume of it.

The QC checking is also more thorough, especially if the watch is made in Japan.

And we also need to be aware that these prices are still lower than an automatic diver’s watch made by a reputable American/Swiss/German watchmakers.

Lots of people will agree when I say that Japanese watches bring great value for our money =)

Click the links below for these diver’s watches that I’ve reviewed:

Seiko: SKX007 / SKX009 / Monster / SRP777 Turtle
Orient: Ray / Ray II / Mako / Mako II

Final Thoughts

Invicta Pro Diver watches are surely a line of watches that causes lots of conflict within oneself. It’s good looking due to the Submariner design.

But the fact that it copied that design makes it a bit less desirable as it does not has its own identity.

And Invicta’s questionable quality checking on its products is surely something to be wary about.

If you are a die hard fan of Submariner’s design but aren’t willing to part thousands of dollars buying it, then this Invicta 8926 is definitely for you.

But if you are more towards having a unique watch with its own design, or looking for a real diver’s watch, then I’d suggest you look elsewhere (the Orients and Seikos listed above might be a good start).

I hope you guys like this Invicta 8926 review. Let me know if you have any comments or questions regarding the watch.

I love to hear what you guys think about it =)

Cheers!

Invicta Pro Diver 8928OB Review

Invicta Pro Diver 8929OB is a very cool and stylish looking watch at first glance. It has a two tone color with contrasting silver, gold and blue colors used.

It’s very shiny and will surely catch attentions. Not to mention it is an automatic watch and sells for a very affordable price too. So how cool is that?

But then the excitement suddenly burst off when someone mentions that the design of the Invicta Pro Diver 8929OB is a ripoff from Rolex Submariner (specifically the 16613 model) – though Invicta uses “Homage” to describe the similarity.

My first impression of the watch is it’s a cheap copycat, but as I learn more about it, I find it quite a passable watch, considering it is an automatic with a less than $100 price tag – very surprising as most automatics can only be had for more than that.

Without further ado, let’s get on to the review of the Invicta Pro Diver 8929OB and look closely at this watch.

The Invicta Pro Diver 8928OB (left) with the Rolex Submariner 16613 (right). Same look but different value

Homage Vs. Outright Imitation

While Invicta and some of their fans will say the Invicta Pro Diver 8928OB is a homage to the Rolex Submariner, I believe that is too soft.

For me, a homage is when a company reproduces their own vintage watches and sell it to the current generation.

It will have a slight change in terms of design to cater to the newer generation or as improvements.

For example, Tissot Visodate and Hamilton Khaki King which are watches produces as homage to their popular vintage watches.

Both have been improved with bigger diameter and dial design for today’s watch style.

But the Invicta Pro Diver 8928OB is very very similar to the Rolex Submariner (picture above is the model 16613).

Notice the blue dial, shape of the circle & index markers, hands shape, date display with cyclops, blue bezel and the most striking of all – two tone color with gold color at bezel edge, crown and middle link of bracelet.

The only difference is the Invicta logo and signatures on the bezel. We can just take the Invicta, slap a Rolex logo on it, sale it for $10,000 and not much people can tell the difference.

For me, it’s an outright imitation by Invicta. It is just not possible for Invicta to suddenly have an inspiration to make a two tone diver watch with blue bezel, with the same mercedes hour hand as the Rolex!

It’s not a good practice by the company to copy other’s design but then again, the Invicta 8928OB is a very good value for money watch.

The quality is nowhere near the Rolex but for a true automatic watch, it’s passed the requirements.

In my opinion, it just lacks the character from other watchmakers that come up with their own design.

Invicta Pro Diver 8928OB Review

Eye Catching Two Tone Color Design

Imitation apart, the Invicta 8928OB does have a good design (it’s a Rolex design after all!) though I’m sure Invicta does not spend so much time in designing this watch lol.

It is a shiny and eye catching watch. The blue dial is quite beautiful to look at.

The blue dial and bezel contrasts with the gold color of the bezel edge, outline of markers/hands and middle link of bracelet giving it a unique contrast.

At the same time it is bold and will catch attention of anyone that lay their eyes on it.

The watch has a unidirectional diver bezel with minute marks on it. The design of the bezel is slightly different than the Rolex Submariner with the indices.

The hands and markers all has lume applied on them, as customary of any diving watch. To my surprise, Invicta also sign the crown of this watch with their cross symbol.

Ultimately, You Get What You Paid For….

Invicta 8929OB really looks good. But then at it’s very affordable price, some serious compromise in quality are needed to make the watch profitable to be sold.

The lume of the watch is seriously lacking in brightness and area applied. It will give off some small light only and won’t be any use in darkness at all.

It’s also has problem with water resistance. There are many reports on Amazon verified purchaser that the watch has water ingress issues.

So much for a 200 m water resistance huh? But then, it could be some lemon units though. Which is why I recommend you guys to get the Invicta from a vendor that has solid refund policy (like Amazon).

The gold plating also is not durable. Plating is a method to apply color to an otherwise plain silver stainless steel by pasting a metal on it (in this case its gold).

The issue is that this is just like our car paint. It’s not durable and can be scratched easily.

More expensive watches will use PVD to coat the stainless steel giving a longer lasting color application (for example the Victorinox Infantry Vintage with its gunmetal PVD).

Invicta Pro Diver 8928OB Review

Invicta Pro Diver 8928OB looking from behind. It has an exhibition caseback – something that should not present in any diver watch. The movement can be seen from it. Notice also the bracelet clasp is engrave with Invicta’s logo and signature, a very nice detail for such a cheap watch.

There are also reports on the movement suddenly died for no apparent reason. This Invicta Pro Diver 8929OB uses a Japanese automatic movement either Miyota 8215 or Seiko NH25A or Seiko NH35A.

Based on my research, Invicta uses those 3 movements for this watch. I’m not sure why they do this but one thing for sure, all 3 movements can be considered the lowest grade automatic movement from both companies.

As such, the movement is not fluid and smooth at all. Invicta also noted that the watch need to be worn for more than 8 hours everyday for it to keep on running – suggesting the automatic self wind mechanism is not that efficient.

A way around this problem is to manually wind the watch everyday as the mainspring will be tighten better. It’s also the method I recommend for those with automatic watches.

So How Does Invicta Pro Diver 8929OB Compares With Rolex Submariner 16613?

So how does the Invicta compares with its “older brother” the Rolex Submariner 16613? Considering the difference in price between these two can be a cool $10000, I can say a lot!

Besides the much higher price, the Rolex also has a better movement (a COSC certified Chronometer), better material (Rolex uses a special type of stainless steel that is more corrosion resistant.

The gold case also is made with higher quality technique to make it scratch resistant), a ceramic bezel to make it scratch resistant, a watch that will keep its value for a long time, and also that coveted Rolex brand.

Truth is, I feel the Invicta 8928OB is not too bad considering its very cheap price. It looks great, passable quality, and has an automatic movement.

You just get what you paid for. And I don’t think its a totally bad thing to buy an imitation watch.

Most people cannot buy a Rolex so they buy an Invicta. So it’s totally up to them to decide as it’s their money.

But as for me, I’m not going to buy it purely because it’s an imitation of the Rolex. I really respect the effort these watchmaker put into their watches and as someone who loves automatic watches, I want to support that effort.

Plus, I like if my watches has a different design than others in the world. It just makes them more unique

Here’s a video where you can see the Invicta 8929OB in action

Invicta Pro Diver 8928OB Advantages And Disadvantages

Below are the pros and cons of the Invicta Pro Diver 8928OB:

Cons:

1- As an imitation, the watch lacks character and you might lose some respect among watch enthusiasts

Some Other Recommendation for Affordable Automatic Watch

If you are like me and don’t like to spend some money on an imitation watch, here are some recommendation of a solid and cheap automatic watches.

But all of these are more expensive than the Invicta Pro Diver 8928OB ($80 is a very cheap price for an automatic!). But then, that’s the price to be paid for a bit higher quality watch.

Affordable Automatic Diver Watch:
1- Orient Mako ($150-$250)
2- Seiko SKX007 ($200)

Affordable Automatic Dress Watch:
Orient Bambino ($200)

Affordable Automatic Casual Watch:
Swatch Sistem51 ($100-$150)

Conclusion

To conclude, Invicta Pro Diver 8928OB is an eye catching, unique with two-tone color, an one of the most affordable automatic timepiece that you can get.

Provided that you can tolerate the blatant design copy of the watch from the Rolex Submariner of course.

To some watch aficionados, this watch is a low quality garbage that they won’t touch. But for some (and actually most people on the planet) the Invicta 8929OB is quite a beautiful watch (it has the design of the Rolex after all).

It has a low quality craftsmanship and not so smooth movement but that are something to be expected from a very cheap automatic watch that costs $80.

Even Swatch’s plastic automatic watch – Sistem51 – costs more than $100.

You get what you paid for and that is very true in the watch world.

If you are looking for a very cheap and eye catching automatic watch, that this could be it – provided you don’t care the imitation and low quality construction of it.

Invicta Pro Diver 9937 Review

Invicta Pro Diver 9937 Review

Welcome to the Invicta 9937 review, a model from the Pro Diver line up. Invicta is a brand that is well know for making good watches (automatics and quartz) at affordable prices. For those that don’t know, Invicta means “invincible” in Latin.

The company is founded in the Swiss around 1800s on the belief that fine timepieces can be sold at a modest price to the masses, and they still do that today.

The company is currently based in the US, but still outsourced most of their parts from the Swiss and assemble it somewhere in China.

So if you heard somebody says that Invicta is “Swiss Made”, don’t give much attention to it lol. For all we know, it could just be a marketing ploy.

Invicta 9937 OB

Here, I’m going to review the Invicta 9937 Pro Diver (or 9937OB. The OB stands for “Old Bezel” that is the coin edge bezel this unit has. Some newer Invicta has the scallop edge).

Let’s check out the Invicta 9937 review shall we.

Invicta 9937 Review

Homage Or Knock Off?

This particular Invicta Pro Diver 9937 is a homage to a very popular diving watch, the Rolex Submariner.

Though many (actually most) of diving watches out there looks like the iconic sub, the Invicta Pro Diver 9937 is very very similar to the Rolex.

It’s something that’s well know of the brand. They like to copy well known watches blatantly.

The overall watch casing, bezel, font of the numeral on the bezel, hour markers, date display with cyclops, and the minute and hour hands are 99% the same.

With these, it is very hard to not say Invicta copied the Submariner’s design (though some people is more forgiving to term it as “homage”).

Invicta did impart their own design on the dial and some inscribing on the watch’s sides and back to give the watch their own brand. In this regard, Invicta is a step above cheap China knock-offs.

But unless you see it up close, it’s very hard to tell if you are wearing a Rolex or an Invicta which can be what Submariner’s fans might want – a much cheaper alternative to the Sub.

Nevertheless, a watch’s worth is not just on the design itself. Even though it is a copy, the Invicta Pro Diver 9937 is a tough and solid watch on its own right.

And it’s definitely much friendlier to our wallet than the Submariner too!

Invicta Pro Diver 9937 Review
The Invicta Pro Diver 9937 has a 40 mm diameter, not too big and not too small and can suit most people’s wrist.

It has a thickness of 12 mm and weigh 5.6 oz or 159 grams and is comfortable to be worn and used.

Though you might want to look for another watch to go with your suit as it is quite thick and might have problem to fit into your sleeves.

It is made from stainless steel, and have a water resistance of up to 660 feet or 200 m.

The crown is screw down crown, a compulsory element to be considered a serious diving watch. The screw down means the crown has to be turned to operate/change the time and date.

This is to prevent water infiltration during diving.

The band is made from stainless steel too and comes with fold over clasp with safety. It is a sturdy and solid band, looking from the thickness of the steel.

Invicta Pro Diver 9937: A Rolex Submariner Look Alike?

As mentioned earlier, this Invicta 9937 watch is a spitting image of the Rolex Submariner.

A lot of diving watches today takes their design cues from the Sub such as markers, bezel design, crown and crown guard, hands, and also the cyclops to magnify the date.

The Sub has become hugely popular, that it is just unimaginable for any diving watch to have its iconic look.

Invicta also apparently did it with this watch, but they had took it further. The bezel, markers, hands, and the date are just too identical to the Sub.

Even the “mercedes” hour hand is the same! Luckily the dial signature is totally different as it bears the Invicta logo signatures. There is also an Invicta scribe on the right side of the watch and on the back case.

The dial comes with black in color and made from metal. The previous version of this watch comes with sapphire window (lucky them!) while the latest version dial window is made of flame fusion, a mineral crystal that has sapphire coating on top of it.

This material is not as scratch resistant as sapphire though it really depends on how you use the watch.

On the back, Invicta put an exhibition caseback to show the movement which is quite strange for a 200 m diving watch to have this.

It is always a pleasure to be able to see the movement. By looking at it, you will be able to appreciate the design and meticulous effort taken to assemble the hundreds parts of the watch.

Invicta 9937 Review

Sellita SW200 And ETA 2824-2

Previous version of the Invicta Pro Diver 9937 is powered by ETA 2824-2 movement.

But some few years back, Swatch Group (parent company of ETA) made the decision to restrict the selling of ETA movement to its competitors.

Because of that, Invicta had to purchase the movement from Sellita, and currently this watch comes with Sellita SW200 movement.

Sellita is a fellow Swiss company that had a history of being a subcontractor for ETA to assemble its movements.

It is only currently the company has grown to produce their own movements and the SW200 is actually a copy of the 2824-2.

They are allowed to do this as the 2824-2 is an old movement (more than 20 years I think) and is not covered under copyright anymore.

The Sellita SW200 movement has 38 hours power reserve and made of 26 jewels (as opposed to ETA 2824-2’s 25 jewels). It is automatically winded and can also be manually winded by rotating the crown 25 times for a full charge.

The posted accuracy from Sellita is around 30 seconds gain or lose per day. But most people that owned this watch report higher accuracy, of only +-5 seconds per day which is a really great accuracy.

.

Watch this awesome review of the Invicta Pro Diver 9937. You can see how the watch fits perfectly on his hand and how stunning it looks.

Invicta Pro Diver 9937 is a really great watch with solid build. It really looks like Rolex Submariner but with a much lower price. Since it’s not too expensive, you are really going to use it for a whole bunch of activities.

Activities that you won’t even dream of using the Submariner at all such as diving, camping, skiing, travelling and so on. Even though the Submariner is made for diving, I bet none of those that spent thousands of dollars to buy it will actually use it for anything too extreme.

With this watch, you will get a daily beater that is just as gorgeous and solidly built like the Rolex. And with it’s price around $280, it is a killer deal for a watch!

Questionable Quality Performance

On a side note, I should warn you guys about the fact that Invicta is also infamous for a lax QC practice.

Just look at this negative reviews from Amazon. Quite a number of them give bad reviews (1 and 2 stars) which means the could be a lot of lemon units!

Which is why I would suggest you buy this watch from a merchant that has good return policy, in case you bought a lemon.

Amazon is well known to have good return policy, so if you do get a lemon, you can always contact them to get a refund.

Final Thoughts

So what’s my verdict? Well, the watch is not an original piece and lacks character due to the blatant copy from Rolex Submariner.

But as a homage watch, especially since not everyone can put down $10k for a watch, it’s a good deal.

Good built with a design that’s well loved and very affordable price. What’s not to like? For a cheap Submariner homage, this is one of the best you could buy.
